Fonseca has served in the following roles: Director for the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center (Interim, Enterprise), Associate Director for the Center of Individualized Medicine, and Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine.
He is a Mayo Clinic Distinguished Investigator and a Resident of Internal Medicine at the University of Miami.
Recipient of the Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell Clinical Investigator Award and the International Waldenström Macroglobulinemia Research Award.
He is also Clinical Investigator of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation.
